Eula Lorene (Sells) Modrick

Eula Lorene Sells Modrick, a long-time resident of Amarillo, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Amarillo, TX.
Born on January 25, 1939 in Shattuck Oklahoma, Eula graduated high school from Laverne, OK and continued her education at Panhandle State University (now OPSU) as a double major in Education and Home Ec. She married Ed Modrick on December 20, 1959 and then taught for 7 years in Guymon, Oklahoma and 30 years in CISD.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Don Lee Sells and Edna Bernice Sells.
Eula is survived by her husband, Reverend Ed Modrick, daughter La Parsha Wise and son-in-law Michael Wise; Four Grandchidren:Jonathan Paul Wise, wife Shann Wise, J’Rhea Elyse Carrillo, husband Joshua Carrillo, Josalynn Lea Maskill, husband Tim Maskill, Jacob Lyndon Modrick Wise; Two Great-Grandchildren: Jonathan Caleb Wise, Levi Michael Modrick Carrillo.
Eula loved teaching and educating children but more than anything Eula’s passion was for her Lord and her family. She allowed God to always be number one in her life and taught her daughter and grandchildren to do the same. Eula’s faith in the Lord was incredible and was notably one of the greatest Prayer Warriors. Her belief in the power of prayer resonated through her family and friends and is one of the greatest gifts she passed down to her family. Eula enjoyed listening to her husband preach, attending their church from the front pew every Sunday for 50 years.
Eula loved gardening and had a beautiful talent with plants and flowers. She never missed a gardening season and made every effort to make her home bright and inviting. An incredible cook, Eula entertained and blessed her family and friends with her delicious food and hospitality. Among her grandkids’ favorites were her mashed potatoes and Red Velvet cake, which she made from scratch for everyone’s birthday. She never wrote down her recipes, recalling every little detail from memory, so her magic touch in baking will be missed.
Her beautiful and peaceful spirit filled each room as she made every day special with her family. Although she would never admit, Eula was voted Homecoming Queen in college. She was truly a beautiful woman. Eula’s greatest joy in life was being Mammy to her four grandkids. She enjoyed attending all musical and sporting events and between her four grandkids, managed to be at all of them. Mammy was the most proud of all their accomplishments and of course, thought her grandkids were always the best. She traveled all over to watch them play their favorite sports and thought the world of her grandkids, loving them harder than anyone. She taught them next to God, family is the most important thing and believed that a good home-cooked meal was the best way to celebrate family. Eula was a nurturer, always finding ways to better take care of other people, especially her grandkids. We will continue to carry Mammy with us in our memories and in our prayers.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
