Essie Story

Essie Lee Graves Story, 101, passed from this life on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at home. She was born in Hollis Oklahoma February 24, 1918 to Vernetta Amanda Graves and Francis Perry Graves. She Attended La Casa School near Hollis.

She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse at the State Hospital in Ft Supply, Oklahoma and continued in that occupation at the State Hospital in Camarillo, CA and the State Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado.

She later moved to Amarillo and worked as a private duty nurse for many prominent families of Amarillo until she retired at age 91. Her passions were caring for her family and tending her flower garden. She was a loving Christian mother and a proud charter member of Coulter Road Baptist Church.

She was married to John Story for 50 years, with whom she had 3 children. She was preceded in death by a son, Jay Story, a grandson, Brian Branigan, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Branigan. She is survived by D. Story, wife of Jay Story, a son Kenneth Story and his wife Dolores, and daughter Kaye Branigan and husband Galen, all of Amarillo.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Lorena Greer, Michael Story and wife Beth, Leslie Branigan and husband Kaleb Thomason, Stephen Branigan and wife Shiloh, Michele Taylor, Camica Salicco and husband James, Jessie Story, and 8 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Special thanks to Visiting Angels: Nancy, Roberta, Michelle, and Bernice for the love, compassion, and care they showed her to the point of becoming like family. We also would like to thank Home Care Connections and Kindred Hospice.

She was dearly loved by all of her family and will be greatly missed.
