Vernon Camp

Vernon Camp, 89, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in Central Church of Christ Chapel with Allan Stanglin, minister, officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Vernon was born June 14, 1928, in Fox, Okla. to Alvin and Cleo Means.  His elementary years were at Camp School on Camp Road.   Following graduation from Fox School, Vernon went into the Navy and then graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Oklahoma.

Vernon married Melba Campbell on Jan. 25, 1969, in Amarillo.

Vernon was an insurance agent with American-Amicable Insurance Company and at Mass Mutual before retiring.

He was a member of Central Church of Christ and was a Barber Shopper for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Melba, of the home; six sons, Mark and wife Lisa, of Dallas, Blair and wife Kara, Drew, Dale and wife Teri Ann, and Dennis and wife Melissa, all of Amarillo, and Dan and wife Teri Lynn, of Lubbock; a brother, Dennis Camp, of Fox, Okla.; two sisters, Pat Brent and husband Gene, of Chouteau, Okla. and Shirley Wilkins, of Conroe; five grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
