Perry James Cates, 86, of Amarillo, Texas passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Dillsboro, Indiana.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 5 to 7pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Pioneer Chapel. Services will be held Friday, March 30, 2018 at 10am in the Pioneer Chapel with Reverend Claud Tugwell presiding.
Mr. Cates was born January 22, 1932 in Roy, New Mexico to Joseph and Caroline Cates. He was a graduate of Hereford High School. In 1960, He married Shirley Elms in Silverton, Texas. They lived most of their life in Amarillo. Perry became a builder in Amarillo and was a contractor for many years. He served as an officer and president in 1984 of the Panhandle of Texas Chapter of Associated General Contractors. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church and ordained Deacon. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict as a Gunners Mate- 2nd Class. Perry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be missed my many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Caroline, wife Shirley, two brothers, and a sister. He is survived by his son Troy E. Cates and wife Camille, sister Patsy Horn, two granddaughters, and one grandson.
