Mildred Laura Griffith

Mildred Laura Griffith, 94, of Amarillo, Texas, went home March 16, 2018.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm in the funeral home. Services will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10 am in the Trinity Baptist Church with Johnny Griffith presiding. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Services entrusted to Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors 5400 S. Bell.

Mildred was born in Abernathy, Texas on October 25, 1923 to Walter and Olga Schoor. She lived most of her younger life in Abernathy and graduated from the Abernathy High School. She was riveter during World War II. Not long after the war ended, she married Ira Vernon Griffith and together, they raised five children. She spent many years working as a kitchen supervisor for the Amarillo Independent School District, and later as a Customer Service Representative for Toot N Totum. She was hailed as “The Best Cook in Texas” by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Of all the things she was known to create in the kitchen, she was most famous for her five layer German chocolate cake. Mildred was a member of The Church at Quail Creek for many years.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Olga Schoor, her husband Ira Vernon Griffith, sister Beatrice Flowers, and son in law Jim Davidson. Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Garland Schoor, Randolph Schoor, and Orvalee Schoor; her children Jerry Griffith and wife Mary Jane of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Linda Davidson of Mustang, Oklahoma, Johnny Griffith and wife Cheri of Amarillo, Texas, Tommy Griffith of Amarillo, Texas, and Ronnie Griffith and wife Linda of Moorland, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
