Marcy (Mitchell) Zeman

October 19, 1925 — July 5, 2017

Marcy Zeman, 91, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Jim Shelburne of Washington Avenue Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Marcy was born on Oct. 19, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to John and Alice Mitchell.  After graduating from high school, she worked as an assistant to an oral surgeon and as a clerk for the Chicago Tribune.  She married Donald R. Zeman in 1948.

Marcy resided with Don in Milwaukee, Wichita, San Antonio, and Hereford before moving to Amarillo.  She and Don began a non-denominational prayer group called Inter-Faith Fellowship, which eventually grew into the Inter-Faith Christian Bookstore, which she and Don operated, along with their son, Rod, until Don’s death in 1996.

Marcy was a talented artist and a skilled cook.  She especially enjoyed baking and decorating wedding cakes for friends and family.  She will be remembered for her perky sense of humor, her wise counsel, and her generous spirit.  Marcy would want us all to remember that we should “not grieve as others do who have no hope” (I Thess. 4:13). She knew her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was ready to go home to Him.

Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Zeman, her sister, Irene Volkman, and two nieces, Jennifer Moorse and Cynthia Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughter, Donella Zeman, of Amarillo, her son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Kim Zeman, of Amarillo, a grandson, Zach Zeman, and his wife, Kayla, of Austin, her brother and sister-in-law, Aulden and Mariane Mitchell, of West Allis, Wisconsin, her nieces Becky Mitchell, of Chaska, Minnesota, and Melinda Sas and her husband, Brian, of Appleton, Wisconsin, and by several cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of BSA Hospice of the Southwest and to Marcy’s caregivers from Goodcare.

Memorial donations may be made to the Christian Relief Fund, 1501 SW 58th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79110.
