Luther Dale Belcher

Luther Dale Belcher, 56, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Luther was born June 5, 1960, on Johnson Air Force Base in Japan, while his father was stationed overseas. He graduated from Elida High School in Elida, N.M., in 1978. In 1983, he graduated from New Mexico State University with a double bachelor degree in agricultural business and agricultural economics. In 1985, he earned his first master’s degree in ag business. In 1990, he earned his second bachelor degree in chemical engineering.

He married Jo Ann Cady in 1986, in Elida. They moved to Amarillo in 1990. Luther worked as an engineer for Pantex until his retirement in 2015. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and boating. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bennette Belcher; and a sister, Michelle Jefferson.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Belcher of Amarillo; two sons, Randy Belcher and wife Crystal and Tyler Belcher and wife Silvia, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Debi Mendenhall and husband Micah and Kimberly Follis and husband Chase, all of Amarillo; his mother, Marilyn Belcher of Clovis, N.M.; a brother, Brad Belcher and wife Melissa of Clovis; two sisters, Nancy Castillo and husband Roger of Roswell, N.M., and Sandy Tigert and husband Steve of Artesia, N.M.; and nine grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
