Laurie Lynn Batt (Birney) went to Heaven on February 16, 2018.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20th at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage Street, in Amarillo, Texas with graveside services to follow at Memory Gardens in the Garden of Everlasting Love.

Laurie Lynn was born July 12th, 1945 to parents Lt. Col. David and Mildred Birney, in Little Rock, Arkansas.  The family moved to El Paso, where she graduated from Austin High School.  She attended Texas Western College in El Paso (UTEP). While living in El Paso, she married Curtis Cross and had 2 boys; Paul and Robert of Dallas, Texas and Amarillo, Texas respectively.  Shortly after moving to Amarillo in 1972, she became a single mother until meeting Sam Batt and his son Darren.  Sam and Laurie were married on February 16th, 1979 and began their life of 39 years together.

In Amarillo, Laurie was employed at the American Quarter Horse Association and Corporate Systems from 1972-1983.  After a few years together, she left her clerical job to join Sam in owning a successful retail business. She later went to work for Regis Inventory Specialists and American Marketing Services.  As a team, Sam and she managed a local RV Park for the last few years.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Colleen Gandara, and niece Wendy Berggren.

Laurie Lynn is survived by her husband Sam Batt of Amarillo, Mimi Thackston, sister of El Paso, TX and Mary Lou Birney, sister of Branson, MO. She also is survived by three sons, Paul Cross of Dallas, TX, Darren Batt of Woodward, OK, and Robert Batt of Amarillo, TX, five grandchildren; Sean, Hunter, Brittney, Amanda of Amarillo, TX and Lacy Batt of Woodward, OK.  Other survivors include four nephews and six nieces; her loveable canine companion Rusty and many cherished friends.
