John D Ingram

John D. Ingram, age 87, died on Saturday, July 29, 2017, in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at The Church of Christ at The Colonies with Mr. Dick Marcear officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

John was born on October 12, 1929, in Wellington, Texas to parents Homer and Mabel Ingram. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1947 and remained a die-hard Sky Rockets fan his entire life. Upon graduation from high school John enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country. As soon as he was honorably discharged he returned to Wellington and married June Robertson on November 7, 1949. Their loving marriage resulted in the birth of three sons, Tom, Dick and Harry Ingram. The couple resided in Amarillo for over 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dickie, in 1999.

Survivors include his devoted wife of almost 68 years, June Ingram; sons Tom Ingram of Arlington, TX and Harry Ingram of Amarillo, TX. Papa John is also survived by five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Paige Ingram Castaneda and husband Salvador of Austin, TX; Barrett Ingram and wife Macie of Pearland, TX; Brittany Ingram of Branson, MO; Andie Ingram of Katy, TX; and Cristie Ingram of Austin, TX. Papa John was also blessed with five beautiful great-grandchildren, Salvador and Abigail Castaneda and Ava, Emma and Daylin Ingram. Last but not least, Papa John is survived by his constant companion, his beloved grand-dog Mollie.

John was a deeply devoted man of God. He taught his children to love God above all else and was an influence for good on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a long- time member of the Church of Christ, serving as an Elder for over 17 years. He was a current member of the Church of Christ at The Colonies.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM Monday, July 31, 2017 at Schooler Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank BSA Hospice of the Southwest for the compassionate, loving care provided in John’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Church of Christ at The Colonies, or High Plains Children’s Home and Family Services, Inc.
