Donald M. Olson, 94, of Canyon, died Thursday, September 28, 2017. Memorial services will be at 4:30 P.M. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Hillside Christian Church West Campus Chapel with Royal R. Brantley officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Donald was born on July 10, 1923 in Randall County to Arthur and Esther Anderson Olson. He was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. He served on Consumers Fuel Association Board, ASCS Community Committee and Randall County Gas Users Association. Donald was a resident of Palo Duro Village for almost 30 years, serving on the Board of Directors. He was in the Corp at Texas A&M University and entered the armed forces shortly after Pearl Harbor. The entire class of 1944 were deployed their senior year to Fort Sam Houston to officer training, and then he was sent directly to Italy for the remainder of the war. He served as the original company commander of the National Guard in Randall County until 1951. Upon completion of service he had achieved rank of Captain. After the military he farmed and ranched in Randall County for 48 years. He was an avid supporter of Texas A&M.
Donald married Martha Lee Foster on April 1, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Mark Olson and wife Linda, Chris Olson and wife Retha; a daughter, Jamie Moore and husband Skip; seven grandchildren, Ty Moore, Dannielle Lynn, Chrisa Oakley, Brooke Hancock, Aaron Olson, Brodie Olson, and Mark Olson; and numerous great grandchildren.
