Cletis Scott

February 12, 1920 — May 17, 2017

The youngest child of James Monroe Scott and Martha Amanda Branch, Cletis was born in Calera in 1920. He enlisted in the Army with one of his older brothers in 1940 and was honorably discharged in 1944 with the rank of S/Sgt. While serving in WWII, he was a member of the 45th Division, 180th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, Company E and was entitled to wear the EAMET service ribbon. He married Geraldine Farr in October 1950 at Central Baptist Church in Amarillo.

In May 1958 he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, Texas and then pastored churches in Texas and Kansas. Upon his retirement he and Gerry returned to Amarillo and he kept busy serving in any capacity needed at Caprock Baptist Church. Upon Gerry's death, he moved to Frederick to be near his daughter and son-in-law; during the last year he resided at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center. He had a quiet demeanor and gentle spirit and was much loved and respected by those who had the privilege to know him.


He was preceded in death by parents, 7 brothers, 3 sisters and his wife Gerry on February 2, 2006.
Survivors: Daughter Suzanne and husband Clint Wynn of Frederick. Numerous nieces and nephews; special nephews Billy Vaden and wife Joy of Calera; James Scott and wife Peggy of Little Rock. Special friends: the Caprock church family and the Cope's, Dickson's and Robertson's of Frederick.
